How it works . . .

My Approach to Therapy

My training as a Clinical Psychologist was based mostly on Cognitive-Behavioral, Relational, and Family Systems therapies. As a result, I tend to conceptualize people's symptoms and approach treatment largely through the lens of these approaches.

I believe that self-acceptance, as well as the ability to relate to others in healthy and fulfilling ways, are the two most critical factors we need to realize as human beings in order to find our own unique path to satisfaction and contentment. My approach to therapy emphasizes the creation of a safe, open, and non-judgmental environment that allows people to feel comfortable enough to begin to find their way down the road to genuine self-acceptance and improved interpersonal connections in their lives.

Fundamentally, I believe that if people are able to learn to accept and like themselves and be less self-critical, many of their struggles with anxiety and depression will diminish significantly.

The Process

Full-length individual sessions are 53 minutes. I am an out-of-network provider, which means that I do not accept insurance directly in the traditional way (e.g., with a co-pay, etc.). However, I am happy to provide a receipt for each session which you can then submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Insurance plans vary with regard to what they will reimburse. To find out what your plan reimburses, the simplest thing to do is to call them and ask what they reimburse for an "out-of-network mental health provider." In addition, I offer a sliding scale for people based on their financial need. I accept personal checks, cash, credit cards, and money transfer apps such as Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal.

I am able to meet either in-person (address is on the home page) or via Telehealth (see below). Both options are fine.

I am happy to speak on the phone for a free consult to discuss whether I might be the right therapist for you or someone close to you, or whether I can help direct you toward the right treatment.

Teletherapy Appointments

For virtual sessions, I use the telehealth website doxy.me. It is free, easy to use, and you do not need to open an account to use it. Doxy.me was designed specifically for teletherapy and, as such, it adheres to the strictest confidentiality protections  - it utilizes full-volume encryption and does not record or store data.
